An American rail journey

Image
Layout was from a new sketch (341) over at Scrapbook Challenges . Taken at Jefferson City Railway Station One thing I had never done on my holidays in USA, was take a train ride.  Well, I can now say I have. I pre-booked tickets ready for my trip on 14th November, 2012.  I took the morning train from Jefferson City to Hermann, MO.  I purchased a business class ticket for $USD8.50 extra (Total $USD42.00) and boarded the Amtrak train - unlike most stations here in Australia the station was not raised you just walked onto the concrete alongside where the train stopped and walked up a set of steps that the conductor put out.  On boarding,  I was escorted to my seat and was told that my ticket allowed me a free drink - but was told to get it quick as it was only a 1 hour journey to Hermann!   Business class gave you a table and more leg room, that I am sure would be beneficial if you were doing the full Kansas City to St Louis route. After walking around the beautiful town of Hermann,

Cracker Barrel for lunch

Wow, I am on a roll this week!!!  I am submitting this layout for two challenges. 1. Scrapbook Challenges had a challenge inspired by the word -  "TODAY".  They had a sketch (329) back in January, that incorporated the strips down the left side, I filed that in my memory and thought one day I will do that - well that day has come.  The photos were taken at Cracker Barrel Restuarant, in Paducah, Kentucky.   I had been staying with Carol and David (on the left) down on their farm in Missouri, and they drove me over to Paducah, on 20th November, 2012, to spend time with Reta in Paducah. We all had lunch together before Carol and David returned to their home. I found the antique type papers in my stash, and they fitted in with the decor that decorates the restuarant. The thin black strip is from Graphic 45 and it has the word "unique" and description of the word and Cracker Barrel is certainly unique.  It was in Cracker Barrel that I first ate southern food i

More scrapbooking today

This morning I spent a couple of hours with friends crafting away.  I completed some scrapbooking. I love the saying on the below page: Life moves pretty fast. if you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. Many years ago I bought the paper and embellishments for this FALL (autumn here in Australia) many years ago in the United States and I have just got around to using it. Fall in Kentucky and Missouri, USA  Scrapbooking is something I love to do, and I love the friendships that I form along the way.  These photos below were taken at an all-day crop last November, in Jefferson City, Missouri with my friends Laura and Tracey.   Cedar Hill Elementary School All Day Crop 17 November, 2012 Thanks for looking and enjoy your day.

Looking back - Mustaches

Image
The current challenge over at The Lollipop Ladies  is Mustache Lollipops with a twist of facial hair.I thought about this and the fact that my brother (Graeme) had had a mustache many times over the years and I found these photos that I have used on my layout.  My neighbour and friend, Dianne drew and cut out the mustaches for me to use.    Go the Mo - 1992 - 1994  Here is the inspiration:

An impromptu photo opportunity

Image
Good afternoon, Have you discovered Scrapbook Challenges yet?  If you have followed my blog you will know that I love to get inspiration from the challenges that they post.  This challenge called "Kristine's April Number Challenge" had the following requirements - use 4 photos (check), 4 patterned papers (check), 2 sheets of cardstock (check - I used Kraft and a shiny brown bazzil) and at least 4 different embellishments (check). An impromptu photo opportunity - Jeffersons Landing, Jefferson City, MO Close up of the papers used. I love it against my brick wall. Close up of clockface (puchased in Paris flea market) and the great saying. These photos were taken at Jefferson's Landing, Jefferson City, MO. I was waiting for a train to Hermansburg and so we took the opportunity to take impromptu photos of each other.

My layout below was selected as a Gallery Gem over at Scrapbook Challenges  - click on the link and scroll down to my layout.  The first time I have ever been honoured so and it has renewed my energy.   And to think I thought it was too simple and nearly did not submit. Thank you Scrapbook Challenges.  Margaret

Use your stash challenge

Image
Tabitha had a challenge, over at Scrapbook Challenges , to use your stash.  Santa arrives on Waikiki Beach, Hawaii. December 2012 I have used cardstock (CS) that I have had for ages. I have not used the white CS previously as I was just not inspired until this photo taken in Waikiki, Hawaii last December. The christmas tree was from a card I got last year that I could not throw away. I had 3 star brads sitting lonely in a container - why? The rub-ons are old making memories style, remember when they came in a plastic container on a holder and you got many, many rub-ons. Unfortunately the rub-ons appear to have lost some of their stickyness over the years as they tended to separate as I was rubbing them onto the paper.
